Spear & Jackson Corded vs Cordless Lawnmowers

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

There are several lawnmowers available under the Spear and Jackson brand and the majority of them are either a Corded powered cable lawnmower or a Cordless battery powered lawnmower. Improvements have been made in relation to battery performance especially when it comes to recharging and mowing runtimes so many people are now switching to a cord free mowing experience.

That being said, cordless lawnmowers are more expensive, and they are not for everyone, so we have outlined the main pros and cons for both the corded and cordless lawnmowers below so you can decide for yourself which type of lawnmower will work best for your mowing conditions. We have also included comparison tables for each which should clear up any queries that you may have.

Pros for the Spear & Jackson Corded Lawnmowers

Constant Power Supply – there is no need to worry about battery runtime, recharging batteries or replacing damaged batteries for that matter as you have a constant reliable power supply from your power cord.

Cable length – many other brands have power cables that are 10m where you get a longer power cord here at 12m which reduces the need for additional extension cords.

Lower Price – the corded lawnmowers here are available at a lower price level and you can get a good bargain for less than £150 from what we have seen.

Cons for the Spear & Jackson Corded Lawnmowers

Power cables – you will need to develop a technique of avoiding the power cord on your lawn as you work. Plus you will most likely need to invest in an extension cord also to reach the lawn areas further than 12m.

Slower work rate – as you need to avoid the cables, cords and extension cords, you will need to slow down, stop and move the cable before taking another pass so the speed in which you get the grass mowing work done is significantly slowed down.

Power – while the power provided is fine for light and moderate conditions, you may find that mowing in difficult mowing conditions such as long grasses, wet grass and thick dense grass patches can be a bit daunting.

Pros for the Spear & Jackson Cordless Lawnmowers

Unlimited lawn cover – as there are no cords limiting your work area, you have the freedom to mow where you need to without being limited to a length of a power cord or extension cord, plus you get the Mulch plug function.

Batteries – many other brands just give you just 1 battery and that can be just a 2Ah battery, but you get 2 batteries here with these lawnmowers that are more powerful at 4Ah which is a great bonus for extending mowing times.

Safer Hassle Free Mowing – as there are no cords or cables on the lawn as you work, you have a safer, quicker and a more comfortable mowing experience.

Cons for the Spear & Jackson Cordless Lawnmowers

Higher prices – you can expect to pay a good deal more for the cordless models so be prepared to dig deeper into your pockets for this one. You can get a great corded lawnmower from Spear & Jackson for around £150  (or less) while the cordless version can be double the price at £300 and more depending on mowing widths.

Recharging – you need to keep remembering to have your batteries charged prior to mowing work which is another thing on your to do list. There’s nothing worse than starting to mow and you find out your batteries are dead, and you need to wait an hour or so before you can start mowing work again.

Difficult conditions – when you are working with difficult mowing conditions such as dense thick, taller or wet/damp grasses, you will find that the battery charge depletes a lot quicker than normal so mowing runtimes can be reduced even to just 20 minutes. To counter this, you should mow more regularly to keep grass heights and grass density under control.
